Chelu Matuzya is a senior radio journalist with Tanzania Broadcasting Corporation (TBC) and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism, majoring in Broadcasting from Tumaini University. She is a podcast trainer, Executive Director for Women Writers Forum (WRIFOM) and Tanzania Coach for WAN-IFRA in its Women Leadership Accelelator Programme. She was WAN-IFRA`s mentor for its future leaders initiative

Chelu has had a stint of 10 years’ experience in journalism and has worked for renowned newspapers such as Business Times and Majira during November 2008 to July 2010. She is the Deputy Secretary of Tanzania Media Freedom Committee. She also makes use of her journalism career to promote and defend freedom of expression and access to information in Tanzania. Her main interests include; health, gender and agriculture, investigative journalism and disaster management.

She has won several media awards including Excellence in Journalism Award Tanzania (EJAT), 2016 edition in the agriculture category.

From June to December 2011 had an internship at Radio Deutche Welle, Germany on an exchange program.

In January 2020, Chelu participated in the Disaster Risk Reduction Network of African Journalist (DIRAJ) Management training which was organized by UNDRR and DIRAJ. She is a member of Disaster Risk Reduction Network of African Journalist (DIRAJ)

Has also participated in Road Safety Journalism Training Fellowship program organized by World Health Organization and Bloomberg in 2019. She is a grant winner and alumni for International Women Media Foundation (IWMF on cross border reporting and women grant. She has also won fellowships and grants from Tanzania Media Foundation (TMF) on development issues.

Chelu is Women Women in News alumni and a member of and a member of Tanzania Media Women Association (TAMWA).
